Artist of the moment……Bill Hughes…

Bill Hughes was a wonderful painter of the American west born in 1932. The artist attended college at the University of Cincinnati, Ohio but left school after one year and a half.

The artist relocated to Cleveland and worked for Motor Trend magazine as an art director.

After this stint Hughes relocated to Sante Fe, New Mexico.

His wonderful sense of light was gained by spending hours and hours preparing different color combinations. Many landscape artists work in a plein air method, but Hughes painted many of his works by painting what he remembered, what he felt, from the comfort of his studio.

Bill Hughes passed away in 1992.

price range information: Works range from $2,000 to $20,000. The artist worked with watercolor and oils.

If you are lucky enough to be in Boulder, Colorado head to Gunbarrel about 5 miles away and visit the Leanin’ Tree Museum of Art where you may view some works by Bill Hughes. Some works are spectacular for their size some having sides longer than 6 feet. Very reminiscent of a Ed Hopper painting, in that you know what the picture is from across the other side of the room. The vision and detail just becomes sharper as you move closer to the work.
