Artist of the moment………Robert Proch

 

Robert Proch is a contemporary artist renown for his Futurist depictions of the human figure. Robert Proch was born in Bydgoszcz, Poland in the year 1986. Proch works as a painter, printmaker, animator, and muralist.

Proch studied animation at the Academy of Arts located in Poznan, Poland (The nations fifth largest city). The artist is still based out of Poznan, Poland.

The artist began writing graffiti in the streets whilst he was a teenager.

A few artists that inspire Robert Proch include street artist Sat One, Francis Bacon, and Monet.

Proch has incredible design and draftsmanship skills. His style is a blend of wonderfully drawn faces and figures from unique viewpoints that give them a Japanese animation feel.

Artist of the moment……Amedeo Modigliani

 

Amedeo Modgiliani was an Italian artist renown for his Modernist style of portraying human faces. Amedeo Modigliani was born in Livorno, Tuscany, Italy in the year 1884. He worked as a painter and sculptor having modest success whilst he was alive. Modigliani’s work became highly sought after upon his death.

His family was Jewish and his great grandmother had moved to Italy as a refugee. The artist family owned many businesses over the years including lending money, education centers of learning, and mining.

The artist’s mother predicted he would become an artist when Modigliani was 11 years of age. During his childhood and teenage years he was often sick with diseases including pleurisy (the inflammation of the lining of the lungs) , typhoid fever, and tuberculosis(which would take his life before the age of 40.)

Modigliani attended the Academia de Belle Arts located in Florence, Italy. He also attended the Instituto di Belle Arti also located in Florence.

A few years after finishing college Modigliani relocated in Paris, France.

Amedeo Modigliani passed away in 1920 at the age of 35 years of age from tuberculosis meningitis. The artist enjoyed drinking as well as recreational narcotics.

The artist was renown for his work with the nude female figure. Here one of his most famous nude works is discussed:

Price range information: Works range from pencil works at $40,000 to original oils such as Reclining Nude on a Blue Cushion which sold for $112 million dollars in 2012.

Modigliani’s style was often imitated but never duplicated. He was a fantastic style of painting and sculpting the female figure.

Artist of the moment…….Max Kauffman

 

Max Kauffman is a contemporary American artist who works in many mediums. Max Kauffman credits his high school training with giving him the basis for success in the art world. Other than these classes the artist is self taught. Kauffman is a painter, printmaker, and sculptor.

The artist grew up in South Bend, Indiana and Chicago, Illinois.

Kauffman is inspired by South American art. The artist likes to focus on architecture and houses.

Artist of the moment……….Charles Blackman

 

Charles Blackman is one of the most famous painters in Australia’s history. Charles Blackman was born in Sydney, Australia in the year 1928. Blackman is best known for his works of children and also the characters of the famous novel Alice in Wonderland.

Blackman left school at the age of 13 and began work as an illustrator with a leading newspaper called the Sydney Sun. The artist would go on to attend college at the East Sydney Technical College.

I enjoy the childlike quality of Blackman’s art. His style of drawing and painting is just perfect for his chosen genre of children’s stories including Alice and Wonderland.

Artist of the moment……Si Scott

 

 

Si Scott is a contemporary British artist renown for his ink drawings of animals. Scott studied art and graphic design at Leeds College of Art and Buckingmanshire Chilterns University.

Scott has worked for many internationally known brands on advertising campaigns. He has also designed album covers.

Si Scotti is based out of the United Kingdom.

His style of free flowing animals are very creative but I think his work with text and letters is just as amazing. By using only black and white in most images we are able to view the outstanding drawing skills of Si Scott.

Artist of the moment………Choi So Young

 

 

Choi So Young is a contemporary artist renown for her unique landscape collages made from jeans and assorted denim scraps. Choi So Young was born in Busan, Korea in the year 1980.

Choi So Young attended the Dong Eui University located in Busan, Korea.

Her first solo show was held in 2001.

Many landscapes she creates are based on locations around the city of Busan.

Price range information: In addition to her denim collage works the also paints in acrylics. Works range from $20,000 to $1.6 million for an acrylic painting.

What a unique style Choi So-Young has created for herself. I had never before seen jeans as a medium! These are strong pieces for their high level of abstraction and repeating patterns and shapes.

NohJColey is a American street artist and illustrator renown for his work with the face, figure, and text. The artist creates prints, wheat paste ups, and interactive sculptures around the city of New York.

Artist of the moment…….Billi Kid

 

Billi Kid is an American street artist and illustrator renown for his work of famous people and celebrities. Some past works include the President of the United States, civil rights leaders in Sri Lanka, and Che Guevara. The artist often includes politics in his work.

The artist has worked with many nationally known brands as a product designer including the soft drink Sprite. Kid has worked with the N.B.A. on multiple occasions over the years. In this clip we view some works from an exhibition curated by Billi Kid about fine art and basketball:

The artist has a huge appreciation for stickers and sometimes he uses ideas from sticker design in his own artwork.

Artist of the moment……..Aakash Nihalani

 

 

Aakash Nihalani is an American artist renown for his installations that are made of colored tape. Nihalani attended New York University where he began his collegiate career studying law before switching to art and earning a B.F.A.

I enjoy Nihalani’s use of basic geometric shapes and their dimensions as works of art. His use of colors and play of dimensions is a wonderful and unique style of art that translates into awesome gallery or street works.

Artist of the moment……..George Condo

 

 

George Condo is an contemporary American artist renown for his own style of art. George Condo was born in Concord, New Hampshire in the year 1957.

Condo attended the University of Massachusetts at Lowell where he studied art and music.

Condo refers to his style as “artificial realism.” He enjoys portraying things that don’t really exist. Condo works as a painter, printmaker, and sculptor.

The artist is a part participant of the famed Whitney Biennial.

George Condo is currently based out of New York City.
