What I enjoy most about this artist is his use of color. I first became aware of Hessam Abrishami as a hospital I visited often had many prints of his work. I find his work to uplifting and warm, a perfect fit for a hospital.

The buildings of the artist are sometimes painted on cardboard. The artist has a great palette for capturing the greys of the urban city. The artist uses the color of the cardboard as a base and to it adds many shades of grey, black, white.
In this clip we view the artist at work doing some art in Europe. I love this clip because we get to listen to how noisy it is. Sometimes we forget how easy we have it in the studio where we as artists control most of the noise that takes place in our home studio:
In this clip a longer version of the artist at work on a piece. His buildings are simple installations of his completed cardboard paintings:
What a great artist! Any artist that can make the ordinary into something extraordinary earns my respect. This artist is a paint painter, installation artist, and photographer all in one! Awesome!

In this clip we view a show featuring Jonas Wood that took place in 2013:
I enjoy the use of artistic license used by the artist. Some objects are drawn flat but his pictures have some degree of depth or dimension by the Wood’s spectacular use of patterns.
Jonas Wood is based out of Los Angeles, California.
Don Rambant is a fantastic sculptor renown for his work with birds. Don Rambant was born in the year 1950. Rambant loves to work with birds and states that the subject matter fascinates him to no end. Rambant attended the University of Wisconsin where he studied biology and illustration. Rambant also studied printmaking in Italy.
Rambant is based out of Wisconsin.
In this clip we view a great interview from 2009:
Two of my favorite animal artists are Bob Kuhn and Charley Harper. Both were great at taking the very complex anatomy of the animal and simplifying it. Rambant takes their ideas and applies it to sculpture. In developing his work the artist talks about making a design using the first image that he gets whilst looking at something out of the corner of his eye.
Similar to my favorite Inuit artists, I enjoy the use of negative space in the birds by Rambant as well. The addition of basic geometric shapes in addition the sense of “air” we get from the style he sculpts, gives the artist’s work a wonderful sense of a creativity. Rambant is my favorite bird sculptor as I love his mix of reality and use of his artistic license to create wonderful works for us all to enjoy!
Isaac Kahn is wonderful sculptor who works with the figure. Isaac Kahn was born in Lithuania in the year 1950. Isaac Kahn attended the Art Institute of Jerusalem where he mastered the arts of drawing and painting.
Kahn also attended school at the University of Plastic Arts which is located in Montevideo, Uruguay. It was here that Kahn learned to sculpt.
The artist employs some elements of Cubism in his art, on drawings and paintings showing one form depicted from multiple angles.
In addition to painting and sculpting, Isaac Kahn is also an avid printmaker.
I enjoy the abstract forms Kahn makes of his female figures. By working with the same figure seen from multiple angles, Kahn captures the beauty of the curves of the female form.
Colin Morrison was born in Prince Rupert, British Columbia in the year 1977. Morrison’s enjoys mixing new techniques with traditional carving methods to give his work a more modern Five Nations art. I wish more carver’s and sculptors would make prints as their sense of design is so keen.

Clement Lemieux is an artist who is renown for his extraordinary and fantastic use of color. Clement Lemieux was born in Levis, Quebec, Canada in the year 1946. His sculpture work usually involves a figure expressing some kind of emotion.
For instance a work containing three members of a family might be interlocked with their hands in a circle showing a great sense unity and faith of one another. Lemieux then adds color to the work to add an additional feeling of emotion and movement.
In this clip we visit a show featuring the work of Clement Lemieux:
What I enjoy most about this artist is his use of color in his sculpture. Much of his work is done in wood and then painted with acrylics. Its very unusual to see an artist so great at creating forms in sculpture, that has such a fantastic use of colour.
His use of urethane paint, the same used in most automotive paint, greatly obscures the fact that his carvings are made carved out of wood.
Jun Dobashi was a Japanese painter renowned for his abstract paintings. Jun Dobashi was born in Tokyo, Japan in the year 1910. Dobashi studied at the Tokyo Academy of Art and later in life he would move to Paris.

I have written about this artist before, but as luck would have it Kara Walker has a new shoe and some works were made with sugar. The location was the Domino Sugar Factory located in Williamsburg, Brookly, New York. In this clip we visit her most recent show with our friend James Kalm:
The show is free to the public, so if you have the opportunity be sure and see Kara Walker’s work!
As usual her work has managed to cause controversy about racism. But the main work of a large “Mammy” type character is executed well using many tons of sugar and loads of assistants.
