Artist of the moment……….JonOne

JonOne also known as John Andrew Perello was born in New York City in the year 1963.

The artist was self taught. He considers himself more an old school graffiti artist.

Price range information: Highest price at auction was $24,000 euros.

JonOne is now based out of Paris, France.

The artist works with acrylics and inks on canvas for most works.

The artist was part of a graffiti group 156 All Starz. The group was formed to keep him and his friends from causing trouble on the streets of New York City. The artist was able to meet another artist named Bando and Bando convinced JonOne to make the career transition to living in Paris, France.

Its great to see an artist who left his home country to achieve his dreams.

Artist of the moment…….Bruno Giorgi

Bruno Giorgi was born in Mocao which is very close to Sao Paulo, Brazil in the year 1905. The artist moved with his family when he was eight old to Rome, Italy. Despite this Giorgi’s work is heavily influenced by characters of his native country of Brazil. Giorgi was renowned for his sculptures which started rather tight and constricted and ended up loose and highly stylized.

Many sculptures were done with marble, bronze, or steel.

The artist was on outspoken political activist. Whilst in Italy he helped spread some revolt against the Facist government. This angered the government and the artist was sent to jail and eventually deported back to Brazil.

Eventually Giorgi would move to Paris, France and study at La Grande Chaumiere. Giorgi then moved back to Brazil.

Artist of the moment…..Alphonse Mucha

Alphonse Mucha was one of the founding figures of the Art Nouveau movement in France. Born in 1860 in the city  of Ivancice, Morovia. For his artistic education Mucha attended the Academy of Fine Art located in Munich, Germany.

The artist remained in Germany for two years before heading to Paris, France to further his career. The artist was asked to design a poster for a theater. After this work was seen the artist was offered a contract to design theater sets and costumes. Mucha was also signed to a lucrative contract and became well known and wealthy.

A large part of his life’s work was toward a project called the Slav Epic. This project ended up to cover 20 paintings and is a history of his people. This work is on permanent display.

The artist moved briefly to the United States, but didn’t adapt as well as he  hoped and went back to Bohemia, where he spent the remainder of his life. He passed away in 1939 after a bout of pneumonia.

price range information:  The artist was quite prolific and produced posters, prints, and originals ranging from $2,000 to $250,000.

Artist of the moment…..Marcel Dyf

Marcel Dyf was a French artist born in the year 1899 in Paris, France.  Dyf didn’t take art seriously until moving to Arles, France in 1922.  The city is renown for the many works Van Gogh painted over his career. The artist opened up his own studio.  In 1935 Dyf moved again this time to Paris, France. He started off his education with the idea of being an engineer, but gave this up to chase his dream of being a professional artist.

Marcel Dyf was a superb painter of the female figure. Dyf also enjoyed painting floral still lifes and seascapes.

Dyf also enjoyed painting and keeping flowers. He and his wife lived in a house built in the 16th century. In this clip we get some color about a floral work up for auction. The artist kept a large garden so he would always have fresh flowers to paint.

Part of the French Resistance and fought for his country in World War 2.

Dyf attended Carnegie Institute located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Obviously Marcel Dyf loved painting the female from in a very expressive and impressionistic manner. In this clip we view a montage of the artist’s work:

Artist of the moment…..Yaacov Agam

Yaacov Agam is an artist born in Mandate, Palestine in the year 1928.  Agam is renown for his work that consists of a “rainbow palette” and the use of geometric shapes. For his artistic education Agam attended the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design located in Jerusalem. The movement most associated  with Agam is kinetic art. Kinetic art involves a type of movement, sometimes machine driven, in the end result.

Agam’s favorite medium is sculpting.

The artist works in a very large scale with some public commissions larger than 30 feet.

Works are found in Israel, Los Angeles, and Paris.

Yaacov Agam is based out of Paris, France.

price range information; Works range from $1,000 for a screenprint to $250,000 for a large sized sculpture.

In this short clip this is a great example of kinetic art, as you move from right to left around the picture the image changes! One sculpture the artist made for children was meant to change for them as they grew taller.
