Artist of the moment…..Osmeivy Ortega Pacheco

Osmeivy Ortega Pacheco is a great emerging artist born in Havana, Cuba in 1980. The artist is renown for his drawing and prints that bring animals and wildlife we might ordinarily see at the zoo, to our living room.

At the beginning of his collegiate studies the artist was determined to be a lawyer. When push came to shove Pacheco abandoned the idea of law and started to chase the dream of becoming an artist.  For his artistic collegiate education Pacheco graduated from the San Alejandro Academy of Fine Arts in Havana, Cuba.

After graduating from the university he was offered a position on the teaching faculty which he accepted. He has taught there since 2003.

Two heavy artistic influences are Michelangelo and the great Albert Durer. Durer was renown for his woodcuts and as a printmaker Ortega Pacheco has built a reputation for making oustanding linocuts.

A favorite animal of the artists to recreate is the zebra.

Has exhibited in the United States, Cuba, Sweden, London, and Panama.

Price range information: Prints done are usually woodcuts or linocuts that  range from $2,500 to $5,000. Most editions are done in sets of 5.

In this clip done with an interpreter, we learn more about the artists background and how he became an artist.
