Artist of the moment………Daniel Zeller

Daniel Zeller is a wonderful abstract artist whose finished works resemble maps. Daniel Zeller was born in San Rafael, California in the year 1965. For his collegiate education the artist attended the University of Connecticut where he earned a B.F.A. in art and sculpture. Zeller went on to earn a M.F.A. also in art and sculpture from the University of Massachusetts.

Zeller uses many items in composing a work. Some of these include actual topographical maps, diagrams, graphs, and even satellite images. The artist says in his artistic statement he is trying to portray a three dimensional world on a flat surface.

I enjoy the creative shapes used by the artist. His shapes that he uses with yellow and white give each of his work an Op Art feeling. If you enjoy the work of this artist be sure and check out my post on artist Julie Mehretu. She also uses a variety of influences including architecture in developing her abstract works.
