Artist of the moment…..Steve McCurry

Steve McCurry is a contemporary American photographer born in the year 1950 in Darby, Pennsylvania. I am sure you familiar with his most famous work! Its from the cover of the National Geographic magazine and shows a young Afghan girl on the cover. For his artistic education McCurry attended the Penn State University. McCurry earned a degree in the theater arts.

For the Afghan picture a brief recount of the time period. Its during the Soviet, Pakistan, and Afghanistan conflict. McCurry dressed up in local clothing and traveled to a rebel held location in Afghanistan. He left the location with rolls of film sewn into his clothes. When he returned home the pictures gave the artist a boost of fame and fortune. The pictures landed him the Robert Capa Award for Best Photography from abroad.

He became interested in photography whilst working as a photo journalist for the Penn State newspaper.
