Artist of the moment……..Françoise Gilot

Françoise Gilot is a contemporary French painter renown for her work with the female face and figure. Gilot is also known for being the lover and model of Pablo Picasso in the 1940s and 1950s.

Françoise Gilot was born in Neuilly-Sur Seine, France in the year 1921. Her mother was a watercolor painter and Gilot took classes from her mother’s teacher that began when Gilot was six years of age.

Gilot’s mother wouldn’t teach her to draw, but only to paint. Her mother believed if you made a mistake in the painting, to incorporate the mistake into your art.

In this clip we view a painting by Gilot featured on the Antiques Roadshow:

Gilot attended the Cambridge University located on London, England where she earned a degree in English. She also earned a B.F.A. from the Sorbonne located in Paris, France.

Gilot had two children with Picasso. The artist went on to marry a scientist who helped to produce vaccines in the United States.

Over her career she has worked as theater set coordinator and costume designer.

Price range information: Works range from $10,000 to $750,000. Gilot has worked in watercolors, oils, gouache, and pastel. The artist is also an outstanding printmaker.

In this clip from the Tate Museum of London we see some works and learn more about Françoise Gilot:

What a wonderful style she has developed. From her mom’s idea to incorporate mistakes into paintings to the advice she received from Picasso, Françoise Gilot is a remarkable artist who is finally getting her praise and fame long overdue.

Artist of the moment……..Asaad Arabi

Asaad Arabi was born in Damascus, Syria in the year 1941. Arabi works in a very modern style and blends a great sense of design with cultural motifs to create some truly magnificent paintings. Arabi enjoys painting city scenes with women in lengthy Arabic clothing. My personal favorite of the artists are his works of jazz musicians.

Asaad Arabi likes to paint not only what we see, but what might be hidden just beneath the surface.

Arabi is based out of Paris, France.

For his collegiate education Asaad Arabi attended the Sorbonne where he earned a PhD in Aesthetics.

Some prominent collections holding his works include the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Barcelona Contemporary Museum of Art.

Price range information: Sorry none available.

Most works painted by this artist are in acrylic. He seems to lay it on very thick, the works have a great paint quality to them. Very expressive indeed!

In 2007 he found this unique style combining the art of painting with the art of sculpture.

Here we take a look a very large work by Shaka from 2010:

I enjoy the depth and the great dimensions his artwork has. Very real but also very abstract.

Some works of art by Shaka inspired by Vincent Van Gogh:
