Artist of the moment…..Kiyoshi Saito

Kiyoshi Saito was a world famous painter and printmaker born in Japan in the year 1907 in Aizubange, Fukushima. Saito was part of the sosaku-hanga movement. This was the process in which artists became much more expressive in their paintings. This period of time stressed the artist as more important than any thing else.

Saito was renown for his paintings of the Japanese landscape and for his floral works.

The artist participated in a biennale that took place in Brazil. Saito was one of the first Japanese artists to win there.

Kiyoshi Saito passed away in 1997 at the age of 90 years old.

As a cat enthusiast, I love the animated and lively look he gives his cats! Also like the Inuit printmakers, an outstanding use of color.
