Artist of the moment………..Eyeetsiak Peter

 

Eyeetsiak Peter was an Inuit artist born in Cape Dorset, Nunavut Territory, Canada in the year 1937. Eyeetsiak Peter was part of the first Cape Dorset print collection in the year 1961.

Peter was both a printmaker and carver. In his later he became known for his fantastic polar bears.

Eyeetsiak Peter passed away in 2011.

Peter was yet another wonderful Inuit artist who was a great graphic artist who also did wonderful carvings. By exaggerating and capturing the movement in the legs his polar bears have a very life like quality.

The artist is shown with many Inuit artists in Vancouver, Montreal, and Winnipeg.

Artist of the moment….Jake Kadluk also Kudluk

Jake Kudluk or Kadluk is a great Inuit sculptor born in Igloolik, Nunavut Territory, Canada in the year 1952.

Kadluk is renown for his work with animals and polar bears in particular.

Artist of the moment….Noo Atsiaq

Noo Atsiaq is an exciting young Inuit artist born in the Cape Dorset, Nunavut Territory, Canada in the year 1986.

He is most renown for his work with the polar bear. Especially neat are the ones carved from marble. The bears might be dancing or just walking around. Though he has started to work with marble, Atsiaq enjoys working with serpentine.

In this clip we check out   a dancing bear by the artist.

The artist began carving when he was eleven years old and hasn’t missed a day since according to him!

Noo Atsiaq has served as a studio assistant to the master artist Nuna Parr.
