Artist of the moment……….Cecil Touchon

 

 

Cecil Touchon is an American painter and poet. Touchon is best known for his collage works that consist of cut up billboards signs.

Cecil Touchon was born in Austin, Texas in the year 1956. The artist attended the Saint Louis Community College, North Texas State University, and the University of Texas at Arlington.

Below a short interview with Cecil Touchon:

Touchon was a founding member of the International Society of Collage and Assembly Artists. He has also helped pioneer sound and poetry collage art.

The artist is based out of Pagosa Springs, Colorado.

Artist of the moment………Per Kirkeby

 

Per Kirkeby was born Copenhagen, Denmark in the year 1938. Kirkeby attended the University of Copenhagen where he studied geology, he earned a masters degree. He then also attended what at the time was an experimental art school.

Kirkeby is a painter, sculptor, printmaker, and author. His sculpture work often includes bricks and shapes that repeat throughout the work. The artist has completed public commissions in Germany and Denmark. Below an example of his sculpture work.

 

The artist is included in many prominent collections and museums including the Museum of Modern Art located in New York City and the Tate Museum of London, England.

The artist has been a participant of the famed Venice Biennial.

Price range information: Prints can be starting at $1,000. Original works in oils can reach $300,000. The artist is a prolific printmaker but also works in gouache.

Artist of the moment……Koun Takamura

Koun Takamura was an artist born in the year 1852. Koun Takamura was an artist and poet that was renown for a public commissioned work of who many call the last true samurai, Saigo Takamori. Koun Takamura created the statue in 1898. Below is an image of this famous warrior. Koun Takamura is associated with the modernist movement.

Koun Takamura was an apprentice to master sculptor Takamura Toun.

Another important idea for Koun Takamura was to preserve the art of carving in wood. The artist was part of the Tokyo School of Fine Arts faculty where he taught Buddhist style of carving with wood.

Koun Takamura passed away in 1934.

Koun Takamura was the father of the poet and and artist Kotaro Takamura.

Price range information: Works range from $2,000 to $70,000.
