Artist of the moment…..The Becher family

Bernd Becher and his wife Hilla were born in Germany . Bernd was born in 1931 in Siegen District, Germany. He attended the Academy of Art located in Stuttgart and Dusseldorf, Germany. The artist studied lithography, typography, and painting.

Hilla was born in Berlin, Germany. As you can tell by the gallery both are interested in architecture and photographing large shaped items such as a coal bunker, water tower, or styrofoam plant.

The couple started collaborating on works beginning in 1959. Subjects were large industrial plants, sometimes on the verge of disappearing forever.

The couple taught photography and had many students who went on to become famous photographers. Some names include Andrea Gursky, Thomas Ruff, and Thomas Struth.

Included in shows at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City and the Palais des Beaux Arts in Brussels, Belgium.

Brend Becher passed away in 2007 at the age of 76 years of age.

Hilla Becher still lives and works out of Dusseldorf, Germany.

Price range information: Prints and originals range $1,000 to $300,000.
