Artist of the moment…….Al Taylor

Al Taylor was an American artist renown for his sculpture and installation works often made from found materials. Al Taylor was born in Springfield, Missouri in the year 1948.

The artist considered drawing a vital element in his process of creating a new sculpture.

In this clip we catch up with our favorite art critic, the great James Kalm, and visit a show by Taylor called Rim Jobs and Side Effects:

Taylor attended the Art Institute located in Kansas City, Missouri. The artist also studied in the Whitney Museum of American Art Independent Study Program.

Taylor began his career as a painter. After a trip abroad to Africa he didn’t have enough money to buy new painting supplies such as canvas. It was at this point that he began to work as a sculptor in recycled and found materials.

He was one of the first artists to work with Plexiglass as a medium.

Al Taylor passed away in 1999 at the age of 51 years old due to lung cancer.

The artist is part of the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art located in New York City.

Price range information: Works range from $5,000 to $20,000 for drawings and paintings. No pricing available for his sculpture works.

Another artist making wonderful works of art from wire is Tim Flynn.

Artist of the moment……..Bill Schenck

Bill Schenck is a wonderful artist working with the cowboy and western theme in a Pop Art style. Schenck was born in 1947.

Schenck attended the Columbus School of Art and Design located in Columbus Ohio. Schenck went on to earn a BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute.

Having seen Bill Schenck’s art in person I was most amazed with the color. So brilliant I thought the artist had used acrylics or M. Graham Walnut oil paint. If you visit the Denver Art Museum make sure and seek out paintings by Schenck.

Schenck is a prolific printmaker and in this clip we view many of his serigraph prints:
