Artist of the moment……..Sarah Sze

 

 

Sarah Sze is an contemporary American sculptor. Sarah Sze was born in Boston, Massachusetts in the year 1969. In addition to sculpture the artist creates site specific installation works.

One of her constant themes to explore is the never ending appearance of commercialism and information in our culture. Often times she includes many man made items in her art.

The artist attended Yale University where she earned a B.A. degree. Sze went on to earn a M.F.A. degree from the School of Visual Arts located in New York city.

She has created installations for the Museum of Fine Arts of Boston, Ma.

Artist of the moment………..Agathe de Bailliencourt

 

Agathe de Baillencourt is a French painter renown for her abstract style. Agathe de Bailliencourt was born in Paris, France in the year 1974. Baillencourt is a drawer, painter, and installation artist.

Agathe de Bailliencourt attended the Ecole Boulle located in Paris.

Although her work is quite abstract in some pieces we get the suggestion of an interior with a door or the exterior with a flag. These are my favorite works of the artist. She has a wonderful use of color and also the clever inclusion of text in her paintings.

The artist enjoys painting in her studio but she also exposes herself to an entirely different approach by executing very large installation works that take up many meters of space. Her installation works often have a theme of comparing the straight man made shapes with the natural and organic flowing lines we observe in nature.

The artist is now based out of Berlin, Germany.

Artist of the moment……..Aakash Nihalani

 

 

Aakash Nihalani is an American artist renown for his installations that are made of colored tape. Nihalani attended New York University where he began his collegiate career studying law before switching to art and earning a B.F.A.

I enjoy Nihalani’s use of basic geometric shapes and their dimensions as works of art. His use of colors and play of dimensions is a wonderful and unique style of art that translates into awesome gallery or street works.

Artist of the moment…….Al Taylor

 

 

Al Taylor was an American artist renown for his sculpture and installation works often made from found materials. Al Taylor was born in Springfield, Missouri in the year 1948.

The artist considered drawing a vital element in his process of creating a new sculpture.

In this clip we catch up with our favorite art critic, the great James Kalm, and visit a show by Taylor called Rim Jobs and Side Effects:

Taylor attended the Art Institute located in Kansas City, Missouri. The artist also studied in the Whitney Museum of American Art Independent Study Program.

Taylor began his career as a painter. After a trip abroad to Africa he didn’t have enough money to buy new painting supplies such as canvas. It was at this point that he began to work as a sculptor in recycled and found materials.

He was one of the first artists to work with Plexiglass as a medium.

Al Taylor passed away in 1999 at the age of 51 years old due to lung cancer.

The artist is part of the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art located in New York City.

Artist of the moment……..Street Artist Gabriel Specter

 

 

Gabriel Specter is an American street artist renown for his work with the face and figure. Specter works as a painter, printmaker, and installation artist.

Another great aspect of the artist’s work is his attention to the sense of history of a certain place or time. He does this by paying attention to different lettering styles, such as those find in different advertising campaigns. The artist also uses clothes as a main subject.

Specter has worked with major international brands and is very successful as a commercial artist.

The artist is now based out of Brooklyn, New York.

Artist of the moment……….Street Artist Ganzeer

 

 

Ganzeer is an Egyptian street artist who has made the jump to Pop Art star after the Egyptian revolution of 2011. Ganzeer works in many mediums including graphic design, installations, stencils, comic books, and public art. Ganzeer’s government name is Mohamed Fahmy.

The artist calls his work Concept Pop Art. The idea is to take a very iconic image and make people more aware of the problem. Fahmy often has painted murals of those who died during a political event.

Before the revolution occurred street art was seldom seen anywhere in Egypt. Ganzeer was one of the first artists to use his art to promote a political agenda.

His work has been shown in Europe, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States of America.

Artist of the moment……….Joel Morrison

 

Joel Morrison is an American contemporary sculptor and installation artist. Joel Morrison was born in Seattle, Washington in the year 1976. Morrison attended Central Washington University where he earned a bachelors degree in English literature.

The artist attended Central Washington University where he earned a bachelors degree in English literature.

Morrison went on to study sculpture and earn a M.F.A. from Claremont Graduate University located in California. . The artist also studied abroad in France before he began his college studies in the United States.

Morrison usually casts his sculptures in steel or fiberglass. He is famous for using modern found objects in his art including bubble wrap, shopping carts, and plastic bottles.

I enjoy the high level of abstraction and also modern materials such as plastic bottles and bubble wrap used in the work of Joel Morrison. A great example of contemporary sculpture.

Artist of the moment……Lori Hersberger

 

 

Lori Hersberger is a wonderful modern artist who is renown for his work with colour and neon lights. Lori Hersberger was born in Basel, Switzerland in the year 1964.

Hersberger attended the Basel School of Design where he studied sculpture and video art. Hersberger also paints, makes installation art, and also does performance art.

The artist uses many mediums in his works including mirrors and also blank canvases that evoke memories of the Minimalist movement.
