Artist of the moment………Jaybo Monk

 

 

Jaybo Monk is a French painter, street artist, and entrepreneur. Jaybo Monk was born in France in the year 1963. Monk grew up in France before relocating to Germany.

Artist of the moment…….Street Artist and Illustrator Belin

 

 

Belin is an amazing Spanish street artist renown for his unique style of work with the face and figure. Belin was born in a city located in the south of Spain called Linares. Belin’s work is a blend of surrealism, realism, and caricature.

Belin is short for the artist’s last name, Belinchon.

The artist often works on murals with other well known street artists including Otes.

When the weather isn’t cooperating with making graffiti, the artist turns to the art of sculpture.

Belin shows remarkable innovation in his work. Often times he uses photographs for resources, but with his style of exaggeration one might think the artist just created a masterpiece from life!

Artist of the moment……….James Reka

 

 

James Reka is a contemporary Australian illustrator and painter. The artist was inspired by the graffiti and street art he saw growing up in Melbourne, Australia. Reka is a self-taught artist.

Of the many artists profiled here Reka reminds me of Barry McGee. Both artists create characters which are very animated and full of life. Its also great to see the face and figure with such abstract shapes.

Artist of the moment………Tim Doyle

 

 

Tim Doyle is an American artist and illustrator renown for his work with famous landmarks seen in the movies and television. A great example of this is the classic image of Cosmo Kramer’s car from Seinfeld parked in front of the diner made famous by the series.

The artist is based out of Austin, Texas.

Doyle has had a very successful career as a commercial artist working with companies including Lucasfilm, of George Lucas and also the major comic book companies Dark Horse and D.C. Comics.

The artist started his own printmaking studio company called Nakatomi Inc.

Artist of the moment………..street artist Wesr

 

Wesr is a wonderful street artist now based out of Berlin, Germany. Wesr’s government name is Danny Figueroa.

Wesr was born in Chiclayo, Peru in the year 1980. Wesr grew up in Lima, Peru.  He began making street art in 1996.

Two art movements that have influenced and inspired the artist are Japanese manga and the Pre-Inca cultures of his home country of Peru. This culture is called the Mochica.

Wesr is also a tattoo artist.

I enjoy the narrative quality of Wesr’s work. The artist does a great job at showing how cultures change due to societal attitudes. The artist also does a great job at depicting different textures, placing a lot of detail in many works.

Artist of the moment…….Hari Panicker and Deepti Nair

 

 

Hari Panicker and Deepti Nair are a young artistic duo from India who are renown for their work with cut paper and lightboxes.

Hari Panicker was born in Mumbai, India in the year 1980. He studied graphic design and illustration in college and has worked in the industry as an album designer. Paniker was also in management for MTV networks of India.

The artist enjoys drawing and creating monsters.

Panicker is inspired by Balinese shadow puppets.

Below we take a closer look at one of the duo’s signature lightboxes:

Deepti Nair was also born in India in the year 1981. Nair enjoys working with papercuts and clay. She works in the technology industry as an interaction designer. Since she works with technology so much with her day job she prefers to do without when she is creating art.

The duo have been creating their lightboxes since 2010.

This creative team is now based out of Black Book Gallery looked in downtown Denver. This is an awesome gallery to view many of the artists listed here such as Ben Eine and ROA.

Price range information: Most original works are priced $2,000 to $5,000.

These are remarkable works of art made from paper. I am so impressed with the feeling and emotion of the scene the viewer gets when the piece is turned on. They are lit from behind with a L.E.D. light.

Artist of the moment……..Gary Taxali

 

Gary Taxali is a contemporary artist and illustrator from Toronto, Canada renown for his cartoon style that brings to mind the commercial themed pop art masters of the 1960s such as Lichtenstein and Warhol.

Taxali has a reputation for great fashion sense. Here we check out pocket square art made by Gary Taxali:

Gary Taxali was born in Chandigarh, India in the year 1968. He was raised in Toronto, Canada. Taxali attended the Ontario College of Art.

Taxali reminds of American painter Tim Liddy. Liddy paints imaginary game boards and boxes, and his faces and figures have the same retro comic book style.

Artist of the moment……..Jaroslav Serych

 

Jaroslav Serych was a Czech artist who was a painter, illustrator, and printmaker. Jaroslav Serych was born in what is now called Havlickuv Brod, Czech Republic in the year 1928.

Serch attended the Academy of Art located in Prague.

Serych had nearly 100 solo exhibitions over his lengthy career. For his work in printmaking and illustration the artist won many awards including one for “Book of the Year.”

Jaroslav Serych passed away in 2014 at the age of 86 years old.

Serych produced a large body of work over his career with his printmaking works that are abstract with no figures. These works show a great use of color and very abstract organic shapes.

Artist of the moment……..Aditya Aryal

 

 

Aditya Aryal is a contemporary artist from Nepal who works in many different styles from portraits to street art.

Aryal attended college at the Kathmandu University Center for Art and Design where he earned a B.F.A.  in painting.

The artist works in many mediums including painting, collage, stencils, markers, and digital art. He is motivated in his own artwork by street art, graffiti, and aboriginal art.

Aryal is part of an art collective called ART LAB Collectives. The company designs murals, t- shirts, and runs their own exhibition circuit.

I enjoy his portraits the most. With its design of a big shape broken into smaller elements of color, I am reminded of the artist Chuck Close.

Artist of the moment……..Frederick Kann

 

 

Frederick Kann was a painter, illustrator, and sculptor working in the Cubist and Abstract styles. Frederick Kann was born Gablonz, Czechoslovakia in the year 1886. The artist attended art academies in Munich, Germany and Prague, Czechoslovakia.

Kann moved to Canada in 1910. He would later become a citizen of the United States.

In 1928 he moved back to Europe. Kann settled in Paris, France and became associated with the abstract art movement. In 1936 Kann returned to the United States where he helped to found the American Abstract Artist Group.

Kann worked with oils, inks, and gouache.

The artist was the first American to teach at the Louvre.

Frederick Kann passed away in 1965.

Kann had a great sense of color and design. Kann’s work is a great blend of basic geometric shapes with some interesting organic shapes thrown in.
