Some of the artists of the Black Arts movement had very similar styles. It seems they all could have been music album cover designers. As a group I enjoy the level of abstraction found in their figure works.

The collective for the black arts movement in Chicago was led by Jones- Hogu and was named AfriCOBRA. Short for the African Commune of Bad Relevant Artists. Bad being a compliment in this case!

The often uses text in her work.

Jones- Hogu is a painter and printmaker.

Barbara Jones Hogu does a wonderful job at blending figures and text. Her choice of colors remind of the 45 LP record albums from the 1960s and 1970s.
