Artist of the moment…..John Chin Young

John Chin Young was a fantastic abstract painter born in Honolulu, Hawaii in the year 1909. His parents were of Asian descent and the artist was inspired as a child by the Chinese calligraphy artists. Over his career Young worked as abstract painter but also painted children and horses in a manner that is very abstract.

John Chin Young took painting and drawing lessons whilst in high school in Honolulu, but after that received no additional formal training.

John Young had a daughter named Debbie Young who followed in her father’s footsteps and also became an artist.

John Chin Young passed away in 1997 at the age of 88 years of age. Upon his death Young passed his own art collection along to the University of Hawaii at Honolulu.

The artist is part of many prominent collections including the Honolulu Museum of Art and Chicago Art Institute.
