Artist of the moment Hilma Af Klint

Hilma af Klint was born in Karlberg Palace in Sweden in the year 1862. Klint was first a realist painter before becoming one of the first abstract painters to have world wide recognition. Her father was a high ranking Naval commander.

For her artistic education Klint attended the Academy of Fine Art located in Stockholm, Sweden. She studied realist painting of portraits and landscapes.

Klint was part of a group titled the Group of Five. This group was made of five women artists who painted works that had to do with spirituality and mythological ideas.
These works were just a few of her abstract paintings as she produced more than 1,000 abstract works that she wanted to be shown only twenty years after she died.

The Museum of Modern Art located in Stockholm turned the donation of works by the artist.

The artist worked in oils and watercolour.

Hilma af Klint passed away in 1944 at the age of 81 years old.

In this clip some works by Af Klint. The piece is long, but in the first few minutes we get a sense to how big the artist paints. A regular image doesn’t do her paintings justice as she paints in such a large scale.
