Artist of the moment…….Yeondoo Jung

 

 

Yeondoo Jung is a contemporary Korean photographer renown for a series that featured his photographs based on children’s drawings.

Yeondoo Jung was born in Jinju, Korea in the year 1969. Jung is very well schooled having earned a B.F.A. from Seoul National University and a diploma in sculpture from Saint Martin College of Art in London, England. Jung also earned a M.F.A. from the University of London’s Goldsmith College.

Jung was the recipient of the artist of the year award in 2007 from the Korean National Museum of Contemporary Art.

In this clip we visit a show featuring the artist’s Wonderland series. Photographic images based on children’s drawings that Jung collected when he served as an art teacher to kindergarten children. What a great creative idea!:

Artist of the moment………..Sarah Emerson

 

Sarah Emerson is an American street artist renown for her very large murals. Sarah Emerson was born in the year 1974. Emerson is a painter and printmaker.

Emerson attended the Atlanta College of Art earning a bachelors degree. She went on to earn a M.F.A. from Goldsmith’s College of Art located in London, England.

Below we view a show featuring the work and brief interview of Sarah Emerson that took place in 2013 at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Jacksonville, Florida:

Emerson is based out of Atlanta, Georgia.

When checking out the work of this fine artist I am reminded of American painter Dean Mitchell and his swamp scenes with many cypress trees. Her work also reminds me Expressionist painter Edvard Munch for the many heads included in her art.

Artist of the moment………..Bob and Roberta Smith

 

Patrick Brill, also known as Bob and Roberta Smith, is a British artist renown for his art which uses typography and a poster format. Patrick Brill was born in Reading, Berkshire, United Kingdom in the year 1963. His father was a professional landscape artist named Frederick Brill.

Brill attended the University of Reading where he earned a bachelors degree. The artist went on to earn a masters degree from GoldsmithsCollege.

Brill is more commonly known as Bob and Roberta Smith.

His wife, Jessica Voorsanger, is also an artist and an advocate for exposing people with learning disabilities to art.

Brill is associate professor at London Metropolitan University.

Artist of the moment……..Fiona Rae

 

Fiona Rae was born in Hong Kong in the year 1963. Rae was one of the group of painters called the Young British Artists that came to international fame and prominence after a show curated by Damien Hirst in 1988. Ian Davenport, a recent post was also a member of this group. Fiona Rae is an abstract painter.

Fiona attended the Craydon College of Art before switching to Goldsmith’s College located in London, England where she earned a B.F.A.

Rae was elected to the Royal Academy.

Rae was nominated for the Turner Prize.

Rae is part of many prestigious collections including the Corcoran Gallery of Art located in Washington D. C., the Tate Modern located in London, and the Museum of Contemporary Art located in Nimes, France.

Artist of the moment……..Ian Davenport

 

Ian Davenport is a British artist known for his abstract and very colorful type of painting. Ian Davenport was born in London,  England in the year 1966. For his artistic education Davenport attended Northwich College of Art and Design located in Cheshire, England. The artist also studied at the famed Goldsmith’s College of Art located in London, England.

Davenport lives and works out of London, England.

Davenport was nominated for the Turner Prize.

Some key aspects of the process of creating for Davenport include the use of household glossy paint. This gives the work a very reflective and modern texture and feel. Another interesting idea is to poor the paint and let gravity be the architect of his work.

Price range information: Works range from $5,00o to $40,00o.

The artist is a both a painter and printmaker. For his painted works Davenport uses fiber board rather than canvas on most occasions.

In this clip we view a show that took place at the Paul Kasmin Gallery titled “Colorfall.” This exhibition is a great example of the style of this artist. Many examples of pouring paint, which is a signature style for the artist.

Artist of the moment….Clare Woods

Claire Woods is a wonderful artist and sculptor born in the year 1972 in Southampton, Hampshire, England. Clare Woods is renown for her landscapes which feature many fun and abstract shapes. Many works are painted with enamels on wood or aluminum.

Price range information: Works range from $5,000 to $20,000.

Part of her process of creativity is to use many photographs for references and derive a strong composition from them.

For her collegiate education Clare Woods attended the Bath College of Art in Bath, England for her bachelors degree. Woods went on to earn a masters degree from Goldsmith’s College of London, England.
