Artist of the moment……Photographer Ellen Von Unwerth

Ellen Von Unwerth was born in Frankfurt, Germany in the year 1954. Unwerth was first a fashion model beginning her career after being “spotted” on the street when she was twenty years old. Unwerth moved from Germany to Paris, France. For a gift the artist’s boyfriend bought her a camera. Unwerth started to shoot other models whilst on her own shoots.

Her breakthrough moment was when the company Guess jeans hired her to photograph Claudia Schiffer.  Unwerth has a very bold and focuses on freedom in her photography. The Guess job did so well Unwerth was in heavy demand thereafter. A new career was born!

Her photography has shown up in Vogue, Playboy, and Vanity Fair among many other publications. Unwerth has also shot album covers for musicians including Janet Jackson, Britney Spears, and Rihanna.

Its very interesting to see a photographer that used to be a model. Freedom it seems will never go out of style as so many of today’s younger have used her photographer for their album covers.
