Artist of the moment……..John Grimshaw

 

 

John Grimshaw was a British painter renown for his nocturnal marine paintings. John Grimshaw was born in Leeds, England in the year 1836. Grimshaw was immensely popular with the middle class. Grimshaw was a Victorian erapainter who captured the atmospheric conditions perfectly.

A contemporary that painted similar works was the American painter James McNeill Whistler. Whistler thought he had invented the nocturnal landscape until seeing the works of his contemporary Grimshaw.

Grimshaw had four children that became professional artists.

 

John Grimshaw passed away in 1893 due to complications from tuberculosis.

Price range information: Grimshaw worked in oils. Works range from $100,000 to more than $1 million dollars.
