In this clip we view the artist create a piece in his studio:
Oli- B was born in Brussels, Belgium in the year 1984.
Oli B draws inspiration from one famous French artist already profiled here, Nikki de Saint Phalle. A goal of Oli- B’s is to transform his paintings into 3d.
Gary Peterson is wonderful American artist renown for his abstract works. Gary Peterson was born in Staten Island, New York in the year 1956.

Price range information: Sorry none available.
The artist is now based out of New York City.
Gary Peterson is one of my favorite abstract artists. His use of free flowing lines and colors remind of computer screen savers, but with more color and a more artsy look.
of Austria! I usually mute the commercials when I watch television but this morning saw a wonderful clip. It involves professional alpine skier Marcel Hircher as he went downhill on a course that used poles laden with color that explodes when touched by the skier. The imagery is sensational! The idea was funded by Red Bull:
Victor Moscoso is an Spanish/American artist associated with the San Francisco Poster movement that took place in the 1960s and 1970s. He blazed a path in the commercial industry designing concert posters, advertisements, and comics.
Victor Moscoso was born in Olerios, Galicia, Spain in the year 1936. The artist is well educated having studied at the Yale University, Cooper Union College, and the San Francisco Art Institute.
He learned color in college and art school, yet most of his posters were based on the opposite of what he learned. For his use of color he counts the artist Josef Albers as a major influence.
In this clip we catch with our beloved fellow artist and art enthusiast James Kalm to visit a show featuring drawings from the 1960s to the 1980s of Victor Moscoso:
Price range information: Drawings and posters range from $1,000 to $5,000.
Victor Moscoso remains based out of San Francisco.
What I enjoy most about the poster artists, is their modernist ideas when it comes to design. Sure the posters look great and I think sometimes are taken for granted with the use of the computer and so much digital art. But this artist used color by applying to a surface, not by working it on photoshop.
Another key aspect in his design was his use of using his hand drawn letters. He didn’t use a computer or certain font, he developed his own styles of lettering.
What a great artist that was far ahead of his time!
George Lovett Kingsland Morris was an American abstract whose works emphasized hard edges shapes and vivid color. George Morris was born in Brooklyn, New York in the year 1905.
The family of Morris had a great deal of money and the artist attended the best schools graduating from Yale University.
Morris studied the Art Student’s League of New York City. He was first a traditional artist and then came to the more modern movements of abstraction and cubism after moving to Paris and studying with such luminaries as Fernand Leger.
The artist worked as a painter and sculptor.
Morris was a founding member and president of the American Abstract Artists Group.
George Morris and another passenger were killed in an auto accident that happened in 1975. His wife was also in the accident and was severely injured.

Morris is included in the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
What I enjoy most about this artist was his ideas about abstract art. Morris believed that the shapes used as a basis for abstract could be found anywhere and could be unusual shapes such as a leak of a pipe and the pattern of the dripping water.
Ross Neher is an American artist renown for his abstract style of painting. Ross Neher was born in Kinsgton, New York in the year 1949.
Neher’s abstract works are usually based on reality. A critically acclaimed piece was designed after seeing the doors of centuries old Sforza Castle located in Milan, Italy.
Price range information: Sorry none available. Neher works mainly in oils.
Neher tries to avoid the appearance of brushwork in his artwork preferring a flat and smooth finished surface.
The artist tries to push basic geometric shapes such as square and rectangle.
Neher is often associated with the abstract art movement, but because of the great sense of depth he is able to achieve I consider him more of an Op- Artist that is looking to find interesting patterns that can be found in real life such as the Sforza Castle doors.
Sylvan Lionni is an abstract artist who paints with very bold color. Lionni attended the School of Visual Arts located in New York City earning a B.F.A. The artist went on to earn a M.F.A. from Bard College located in Hudson, New York.
The artist refuses to define himself as to what kind of painter he is. Lionni believes that once you say you are this kind of artist, it closes the door to a level of creativity. The artist admires the minimalist and abstract art movements.
In this clip we visit a show with the great James Kalm featuring the work of Sylvan Lionni:
The artist has also worked as a printmaker most recently as an artist in residence at the University of Connecticut.
Lionni works mainly with arcylics and often works on unique surfaces such as steel.
Price range information: Sorry none available.
Below a link to the website of Sylvan Lionni. The homepage has what at first glance looks to be a photograph of a ruler that is in fact a painting. In creating these works the artist has created a process similar to the way manufactured steel is produced.
Lionni is also shown in the group of artists by the great James Kalm. Lionni’s work appears at 3: 55 into the clip:
What I enjoy most about this artist is his sense of space and the fact that he can create remarkable works of art either abstractly or in a trompe painting style. In his trompe style his rulers often look like photographs, very impressive!
Shirley Jaffe is an American painter renown for abstract hard edged painting style. Shirley Jaffe was born in New Jersey in the year 1923. Jaffe is a painter, printmaker, and also has worked with stained glass.
Jaffe attended Cooper Union College located in New York City.
In 1949 she moved with her husband to France. Her husband was an artist and wanted to attend the Sorbonne located in Paris, France.
Here we visit a show featuring Jaffe and other abstract painters. A wonderful piece by Jaffe is shown at 1:55 in the clip. Another work is shown at the 6:10 mark of the clip:
Once in France she became familiar with other Abstract Expressionist painters including Joan Mitchell and Ellsworth Kelly.
Jaffe received a grant and was able to study in Berlin, Germany for one year.
In this clip we visit a show featuring Shirley Jaffe from 2008:
The artist is still based out of France but returns to the States periodically for shows.
Jaffe uses gouache to prepare her ideas for larger canvases. Her large finished paintings in oils are very large with sides often exceeding 6 feet in length.
Price rang information: Sorry none available.
What an outstanding painter with a wonderful use of color. The shapes and color used by Jaffe are amazing. In the video clip with James Kalm her works seems to shout “Come look at me!” when on the wall next to her contemporaries.
Deborah Kass is an American artist renown or her art which combines bold color and typography. Kass has also done works similar to Warhol’s Pop Art style. Deborah Kass was born in the year 1952.
Its no wonder the artist was heavily influenced by Andy Warhol, Kass also attended Carnegie Mellon University. The same alma mater as Warhol.
Kass is based out of Brooklyn, New York.
Much of the artist’s work is based on celebritie, pop culture, and her political views.
Kass is included in the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Whitney Museum of Art both located in New York City.

In this clip a brief interview with Deborah Kass:
We visit a gallery show featuring Kass with our friend James Kalm in 2007:
What a great use of color and letters. If you enjoy this work be sure and check out other letter artists such as Robert Cottingham, Mel Bochner, and Sister Mary Corita Kent. Kass work reminds me a great deal of the work of Kent.
