The artist also works with the medium of photographer. The first example in the picture gallery is an example of Liu’s photography style.

Crystal Liu’s art reminds of painter Robert Kushner. Both artist’s capture the wonderful organic lines of flowers and also incorporate a variety of mediums to give their paintings a wonderful variety of texture and movement of light across the painting surface. When I first saw Kushner’s work in person I was amazed at how the picture changed slightly as moved, this made it seem very life like.
Kushner often covers his work with resin and also uses glitter, which doesn’t show up well on a digital image. But in person as the viewer slightly moves different light is bounced on a variety of colors of glitter and the effect is a shimmering light.
Dorothea Rockburne is a Canadian painter renown for her abstract style. Dorothea Rockburne was born in Monteal, Quebec, Canada in the year 1932.
In 1950 Rockburne relocated to the United States where she studied art at Black Mountain College located in North Carolina. In the United States she also would go on to meet a mathematician who greatly influenced her ideas of design, Max Dehn. Rockburne also studied under artists Philip Guston and Franz Kline.

In addition to mathematics Rockburne finds inspiration for her work in the field of astronomy.

Two other artist’s who have done works influenced by space and astronomy are Fred Tomaselli and Vija Clemins. All three artists do a great job at using smaller geometric shapes to create larger abstract works.
Erich Glendale is a First Nations artist born in Campbell River, British Columbia, Canada in the year 1972. Campbell River is a coastal city on the east coast of Vancouver Island. The artist represents the Kwakwaka’wakw Tribe of the Family of First Nations.
Glendale produces the traditional cultural items of First Nation’s Art including rattles, bowls, walking sticks, masks, and jewelry.
Price range information: Works range from $500 for jewelry up to $8,000 for large carvings such as masks.
The artist began carving in the 1990s.
Glendale’s favorite medium to carve with is a cedar. Glendale works mainly with yellow cedar but occasionally carves red cedar.
The artist sometimes works with other mediums including gold and silver.
My favorite works of this artist are his rattles of creatures of the sea. What detail and imagination!
Ken Danby was a Canadian painter renown for his paintings of the figure, horses, and the ocean. Ken Danby was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada in the year 1940. For his figurative paintings he concentrated on the female figure and also male hockey players.
Danby attended the Ontario College of Art.
Price range information: The artist worked in watercolors and oils. These works range between $10,000 and $150,000. Danby was a prolific printmaker and many works range between $1,000 and $5,000.
Danby was made a member of the Canadian Academy of Art.

Ken Danby passed away in 2007 whilst on a canoe trip.

Danby was a very skilled painter. My favorite works of his are the horses in water. His figure watercolor paintings of the figures recall another artist who recently passed away this year, Steve Hanks.
The artist also created works in tempera and oils which remind me of Andrew Wyeth with their attention to different textures.
Robert Hedrick is one of the most influential and renown Canadian abstract artists. Robert Hedrick was born in Windsor, Ontario in the year 1930. The artist received his collegiate education at the H.B. Beal Technical College located in London, Ontario, Canada where he studied commercial art.
Robert Hedrick is the father of yesterday’s artist of the moment Julie Hedrick.
Hedrick works in many mediums including drawing, painting, and sculpture. As a painter the artist works mainly in oils. He has also created works in watercolor, gouache, ink, and collage.
The artist is currently based out of Toronto, Ontario.

Julie Hedrick is a Canadian artist renown for her abstract style. In addition to her painting skills Hedrick is also a well respected poet. She has also worked in the entertainment field as a theater set and costume designer.
Julie Hedrick was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada in the year 1958. Her father is a professional sculptor named Robert Hedrick.
The artist attended the Nova Scotia School of Art and Design.
The artist has been based out of Kingston, New York since relocating in 1990.
If you enjoy Hedrick’s style be sure and check out the Washington D.C. color field painters. The color field painters were abstract, but more organized than the abstract expressionists.
Stikki Peaches is an amazing street artist and print maker from Montreal, Canada. The artist creates wheatpastes for most of his street art. His work in the studio consists of acrylic paint, silkscreen, and collage.
The artist often uses superheroes and comic strip characters in his work.
Koomwartok Ashoona is one of the sons of famed Inuit artist Pitseolak Ashoona. Koomwartok Ashoona was born in the year 1930.
The artist had a wife and son who also became professional sculptors. He was based out of Cape Dorset, Nunavut Territory, Canada for his career.
Koomwartok Ashoona passed away in 1984.
His favorite subject matter included birds, the Goddess of the Sea named Sedna, and spirits.

Its easy to see that the artist loved to draw and observe animals. His works in stone have a wonderful sense of life due to the flowing and curvy lines.
What a great example of an Inuit family that has had multiple generations of professional working artists!
David Blackwood is a Canadian artist renown his paintings and etchings of the Canadian landscape. David Blackwood was born in Wesleyville, Newfoundland, Canada in the year 1941. The artist calls himself a visual story teller.
Blackwood attended the Ontario College of Art and Design.
The artist began his own studio in the year 1956.

Blackwood was made a member of the Order of Canada in 1993.
The artist was a lead professor at Trinity College School.

What a great printmaker! He reminds me of artist Richard Kipness. Both make wonderful prints of the landscape. The black and white images help to tell the story.
Qaqaq Ashoona was a son of the famous Inuit artist Pitseolak Ashoona.
Qaqaq Ashoona was born in Ikirasak, Nunavut Territory in the year 1928. The artist began life as a hunter and trapper. He turned to art to make a living in 1953.
Ashoona used only hand tools to make his wonderful carvings.
His wife was also a well respected Inuit artist, Mayoreak Ashoona. She was a renown printmaker already featured here.
The artist passed away in 1996.

Qaqaq Ashoona put great detail in his art. I enjoy his interpretations of the Goddess of the Sea, Sedna. They show a great sense of creativity and the sculptures have a great sense of life and animation.
