Artist of the moment…….Barbara Morgan

Barbara Morgan was born in the year 1900 in the city of Buffalo, Kansas. Morgan was renown for her work with dancers. For her artistic education she attended the University of California at Los Angeles. After graduating with an art degree she taught at the high school level for one year. She traveled though out the southwest and observed the native dancers of the Native American culture. This experience led to a lifelong fascination with the art of dancing.

Morgan was an artist’s artist working in many mediums including drawing, printmaking, painting, and photography.

Was also part of teaching faculty at the U.C.L.A.

Winner of a grant for the National Endowments of the Arts.

Morgan was a co-founder of the magazine APERTURE. This magazine was a great stepping stone for many of America’s great photographers including Dorothea Lange, Ansel Adams, Minor  White, and Beaumont Newhall.

Recipient of  a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Society of Magazine Photographers.

Barbara Morgan passed away in 1992 at the age of 92 years old.
