Artist of the moment……Akiyoshi Kitaoka

Akiyoshi Kitaoka is a contemporary artist born in Japan in 1961 best known for his Op-Art. Occasionally the artist creates these works using digital media and the works not only simulate motion, but digitally some pieces actually do move giving Op Art and entirely new dimension.

What a great clip for a Friday afternoon, at my house anyway! Watch as a cat looks to catch the snake movement in this magic piece of artwork!  I watched this clip 4 times already!

For his collegiate studies he earned a biology degree from the Department of Biology at Tsukuba, Japan. Kitaoka went on to earn a Ph.D from the same university.

His breakthrough work was Rotating Snakes. This work contains many circles made up of individual shapes that actually seem to move the more you look at the work.

Glad to see Op-Art is exploding in Asia like many other movements. Adding the digital enhancements also help the work become more alive and full of even more movement.
