Artist of the moment……..Manuel Mendive



Manuel Mendive is a contemporary Cuban painter. Manuel Mendive was born in Havana, Cuba in the year 1944. Mendive works in multiple mediums including drawing, painting, sculpture, and carving.

Mendive attended the San Alejandro Academy of Plastic Art.

The artist tries to represent his west african and Cuban roots in his artwork. Sometimes he includes sand and human hair.

Mendive has been based out of Cuba for a majority of his life, but traveled to Africa for the first time in 1982.

Price range information: Prints can be found for $1,000. Watercolors from $4,000 to $20,000. Sculpture works range from $10,000 to $90,000.

Manuel Mendive is a wonderful example of contemporary art. I enjoy the narrative quality of his art which reminds of American artist Betye Saar. Both artists use items from every day life such as human hair to tell a story.
