Artist of the moment……..Gary Komarin

Gary Komarin is an American abstract artist. Gary Komarin was born in New York City in the year 1951. The artist attended Albany State University located in Albany, New York. Komarin went on to earn a M.F.A. in painting from Boston University.

One major influence on the artist was Philip Guston, whom he studied with whilst in college. Komarin enjoys using a very colorful palette, which he somewhat adopted from this key mentor.

Komarin doesn’t paint on traditional canvas or art materials. Instead he prefers non art industrial canvas. He will also paint on drop cloths. For paint he creates his own “paint” using latex, spackle, and water.

Artist of the moment…………Damon Ginandes

Damon Ginandes is a remarkable mixed media artist renown for his work with the face and figure. In his mixed media works he often uses a wide ranging mix of materials including acrylics, wood, plastic, wire, and concrete.

Ginandes works as a painter, sculptor, and draftsman. He has done several installations in and around New York City featuring his ageless and anonymous faces.

The artist is based out of New York City.

The artist reminds me a great deal of American artist Barry McGee. McGee also enjoys working with caricatures of very emotional and expressive human faces.
