Marilyn Minter is an American artist born in Shreveport, Louisiana in the year 1948. Minter has worked in multiple mediums including digital art, photography, and painting.
Minter studied first at the University of Florida before attending Syracuse University and earning a M.F.A.
The artist has been a participant in the Whitney and Venice Biennials.
Minter’s work often explores sexuality and in this clip a brief preview of an upcoming show in April where feet are explored:
Minter is part of the faculty at New York’s famed college, the School of Visual Arts.
A very well received series of photographs was made by Minter that included her mother who was a drug addict. Her photographs are in color and in black and white. My favorite works are those of female lips. She doesn’t use a computer to manipulate her photographs.
Her paintings are also based on digital information. Whilst in the Photoshop program Minter combines negatives of multiple photographs to create an entirely new piece of art. For her paintings Minter uses enamel on aluminum. The latter layers of paint are applied via the fingertips. She uses assistants for this part of her work.
Below a wonderful clip showing images of female lips.
Minter is now based out of New York City.

Minter has a great talent for capturing a very unique part of the body in both her photography and paintings, the mouth and tongue.
