James Havard is an American painter and sculptor who is best renown for his abstract works. James Havard in Galveston, Texas was born in the year 1937. Havard is a master at creating mixed media works and often includes resin or wax in his art.
Havard attended Sam Houston State College located in Huntsville , Texas. (The school is now named Sam Houston State University.) Havard went on to earn an M.F.A. from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts located in Philadelphia.
In this clip a visit to the artist’s studio. The artist doesn’t move about that well and I am very thankful that he allowed a visitor to record his studio!:
Havard is included in many prestigious collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art located in New York City, the Smithsonian Institute located in Washington D.C.
In some works the artist makes reference to the Native American culture by using words and sometimes images. Havard was also the artist who conceived the idea of “abstract illusionism.” Some great examples of this are anonymous lines that are cleverly placed in the overall design of the shape, but also have interesting and lively cast shadows.
Price range information: Original works range from $4,000 to $20,000. Havard has occasionally worked as printmaker but no pricing schedule is available for these works.
What a great artist who has mastered realism and abstract art and also flat and dimensional art. Hard to believe how much he has accomplished over his career, which is still thriving at the moment!
