Artist of the moment…….Josh Smith

 

Josh Smith is an contemporary American painter renown for his abstract and collage works which often feature his own name. Josh Smith was born in Knoxville, Tennessee in the year 1976.

Smith attended Miami University for two years before earning a B.F.A. from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.

 

In many works the artist uses text and also symbols such as leaves, skeletons, and fish. Smith has conquered many mediums in addition to painting including printmaking, sculpture, bookmaking, and ceramics.

Smith is part of the collections of the Museum of Modern Art and the Whitney Museum of Art located in New York City.

Artist of the moment………Peter Busa

 

 

Peter Busa was an American abstract expressionist painter. Peter Busa was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in the year 1914. The artist attended the Carnegie Institute of Technology located in Pittsburgh.

Busa also attended the Art Student’s League of New York City. The artist also studied with Hans Hofmann at his school.

The artist was included in the WPA (Federal Art Project)

Busa also taught at the collegiate level at Cooper Union, the State University of New York at Buffalo, and New York University located in New York City.

Peter Busa passed away in 1985.

Price range information: The artist worked in oils, gouache, and mixed media. Works range from $5,000 to $50,000.

I enjoy the artist’s great use of color.
