Artist of the moment……..Mary Fedden

Mary Fedden was a British artist renown for her modernist paintings of the still life. Mary Fedden was born in Bristol, England in the year 1915.

Fedden attended the Slade School of Art located in London, England.

The artist was the first women to teach at the Royal College of Art located in London, England. Some students of hers included David Hockney and

She is sometimes mistaken as being the daughter of Sir Roy Fedden. Sir Roy Fedden helped to design aircrafts and was a noted engineer. Sir Roy Fedden was the uncle of Mary Fedden.

Fedden was married to another artist name Julian Trevelyan. As a huge fan of families of artist, Julian Trevelyan will be the next post! The couple were based much of their life sharing a studio on the famed River Thames.

In this clip we view a wonderful selection of paintings by Mary Fedden. She was able to have great depth in her work. This quality is always enhanced in her works by large very flat areas of the painting. A great combination:

Mary Fedden passed in 2012 at the age of 96 years of age.

Below we visit the studio of the artist. It is very interesting because she NEVER paints away from her studio. This is a short clip from a documentary about Mary Fedden:

Price range information: Fedden was a very prolific painter and printmaker. Works start at $8,000 for a watercolor, gouache, or print. Original oils can fetch $60,000.

Artist of the moment………Keith Coventry

Keith Coventry is a British artist renown or his abstract works. Keith Coventry was born in Burnley, England in the year 1958.

Coventry attended the Chelsea School of Art located in London, England. He also attended Brighton Polytech.

The artist is a past winner of the John Moore prize and received $25,000. This award is given every two years to the best contemporary painting. In this awesome clip we view the artist right after winning this prestigious award:

Here Coventry goes into further detail on a very popular series of prints he made of crack pipes:

Coventry is part of many prominent collections including the Tate Museum of London, England and the Museum of Modern Art located in New York City.

The artist says his work is a combination of art history and social issues.

price range information: The artist works mainly in oils with prices range from $10,000 to $80,000. He has done a few print editions, but on a small scale with not enough pricing available to form a schedule.

I enjoy the minimalist and abstract qualities found in Coventry’s art. I am sure Piet Mondrian is smiling when he sees the work of this modern artist!

Artist of the moment………Agostino Bonalumi

Agostino Bonalumi was an artist working in a modernist style similar to Lucio Fontana and Paola Scheggi. Agostino Bonalumi was born in Vimercate, Italy in the year 1935. The artist took art classes from a very young age and participated in a gallery show for the first time as a thirteen year old.

Fontana was in important mentor to Bonalumi. Bonalumi hoped to push the boundaries of Fontana’s work even further.

The artist often worked with shaped canvases and also built up his works with vinyl and would paint them with acrylics.

In this clip we view two works by Bonalumi. His work was very large in size. It also helps to see the works from side view rather than just from the front. I enjoy the dimensional feel of his art:

Below a wonderful collection of works by Bonalumi. What a great mix of organic and geometric shapes. When seen together we also get a feel for his outstanding use of color:

The artist had his first solo exhibition in the United States in 1967.

Agostino Bonalumi passed away in 2013 at the age of 78 years old.

Price range information: Works range from $20,000 t0 $400,000.
