Artist of the moment……Tony Bechara

 

Tony Bechara was born in Puerto Rico in the year 1942. Bechara is renown for his pointillist abstract paintings that are based on a grid. Bechara works mainly in acrylics and is an avid printmaker.

The artist attended college at the University of Georgetown located in Washington D.C. where he studied law. He also attended the Visual School for the arts and New York University Graduate School for International Relations. Bechara also studied abroad at the Sorbonne located in Paris, France.

Bechara is the chairman of the board of directors of New York’s only museum dedicated to Latin American artists.

The artist is now based out of New York City.

Bechara has won a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts.

Some other famous artists using grids in their work include Piet Mondrian, Chuck Close, and Agnes Martin. Bechara has taken the grid further by adding many more layers and much more color than those grid artists that preceded him.

Artist of the moment……….Carlos Raquel Rivera

 

 

Carlos Raquel Rivera was a fantastic poster artist and printmaker.  Carlos Raquel Rivera was born in Yauco, Puerto Rico in the year 1923. Rivera attended the Art Student’s League of New York City.

The artist flourished in the 1950s and 1960s as his work was heavily sought after for posters and commercial art.

His works were also used to push political ideas and agendas.

Carlos Rivera passed away in 1999.

Carlos Raquel Rivera, like most poser artist, had a wonderful sense of design and use of color. The poster artist are among my favorite because they have mastered not only visual art, but most were excellent at designing and working with various letter forms.
