Artist of the moment……….Andrew Michael Dasburg

Andrew Michael Dasburg was an American artist renown or his cubist style of landscape painting. Andrew Dasburg was born in Paris, France in the year 1887.

His father passed away at an early age and he and his mother moved to the United States in 1892.

Dasburg attended the Art Student’s League of New York City.

In 1909 Dasburg visited Paris, France and became influenced by the Modernist art movement.

From the Antiques Roadshow on P.B.S. we view an appraisal of a wonderful landscape by Dasburg executed in pastel:

Dasburg was a participant in the famed 1913 Armory Show in New York City. The first show of Modernist art in the United States.

Having visited New Mexico a few times previously, Dasburg moved to Sante Fe permanently in 1921.

Dasburg passed away in 1979 at the age of 92 years old.

The artist is part of the collection of the Denver Art Museum, the Whitney Museum, and the Metropolitan Museum.

Price range information:  The artist worked in oils, watercolor, and pastel. Prices range from $10,000 to $100,000.

I enjoy the landscape designs of this artist very much. We must remember that Cubist painting involves painting an image from many different view points. So one house or two houses may in fact look like a city when the painting is finished. New Mexico at that time was known for his vastness and emptiness of space.
