Artist of the moment………Donald Holden

 

Donald Holden is an American painter of the landscape born in Los Angeles, California in the year 1931. Holden didn’t attend any premier art schools studying only at the Art Student’s League of New York City. Ever since a very young boy Holden enjoyed visiting the many museums and galleries of New York City.

Holden is an acclaimed art critic and has authored 20 books including a book about the work of the artist Whistler.

In this clip we view Donald Holden at work in one of his watercolor paintings of the Yellowstone National Park forest fires. His very bold and direct landscapes remind me of watercolor master John Pike:

The artist has a sense of design that reminds me of the great Japanese woodblock artists. In many works the artist uses only two colors in his works. This makes the viewer grow more emotionally attached to his landscapes.
