Artist of the moment……..Susan Shatter

 

Susan Shatter was an American painter of landscapes and renown for her magnificent watercolors of the sea. Shatter was a painter and printmaker born in the year 1943.

Shatter attended the Skowhegan School  of Art located in Skowhegan, Maine. She then switched colleges to the Pratt Institute and earned a B.F.A. from this school. Shatter went on to earn an M.F.A. from Boston University.

The artist was able to take advanced classes as a high school student and her school and also with additional classes paid for her by her parents. Shatter had always shown a desire to create art since she was a youngster.

Some artists that gave Shatter the inspiration to paint are Jackson Pollack, Alex Katz, and Philip Pearstein.

Susan Shatter passed away in 2011 from cancer.

Shatter was an amazing painter of waves and ocean. She also painted wonderful deserts, canyons, and plants. Shatter had a great sense for using lights and darks to keep viewers eye moving in the painting. If you enjoy this artist be sure and check out Woody Gwynn.
