Leon Polk Smith was an American painter born near Chickasha, Oklahoma in the year 1906. Smith was raised on an Indian reservation and was renown for his abstract paintings.
Smith attended college at East Central University located in Ada, Oklahoma earning a B.A. Smith went on to postgraduate studies at Columbia University where he earned a M.F.A.
Past recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship.

Leon Polk Smith passed away in 1996.
