Artist of the moment…….William Conger

William Conger is an American abstract artist born in Dixon, Illinois in the year 1937. In addition to paintings Conger also creates wonderful collage works.

Conger attended the University of New Mexico. Conger went on to earn a MFA from the University of Chicago.

Conger was largely influenced by painter Raymond Johnson. Johnson has been profiled here already and was a leader of the Transcendentalist painters.

The artist began exhibiting his artwork in 1958.

The artist considers himself to paint in an improvised manner. Nothing is planned or thought too far in advance. Conger also hopes to achieve a flat paint surface void of excessive texture or brushwork.

Artist of the moment……..Bill Schenck

Bill Schenck is a wonderful artist working with the cowboy and western theme in a Pop Art style. Schenck was born in 1947.

Schenck attended the Columbus School of Art and Design located in Columbus Ohio. Schenck went on to earn a BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute.

Having seen Bill Schenck’s art in person I was most amazed with the color. So brilliant I thought the artist had used acrylics or M. Graham Walnut oil paint. If you visit the Denver Art Museum make sure and seek out paintings by Schenck.

Schenck is a prolific printmaker and in this clip we view many of his serigraph prints:
