Artist of the moment……..Fumio Kitaoka

Fumio Kitaoka was a wonderful Japanese woodblock artist born in Tokyo, Japan in the year 1918. Kitaoka was renown for his prints of landscapes.

Kitaoka studied a western style of painting at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts. The artist also studied at the Ecole des Beaux Artes located in Parisk France where he studied printmaking and in particular engraving.

Engraving is similar to the Japanese woodblock print but in engraving you cut against the grain. In a traditional Japanese woodblock print you cut with the grain.

Price range information: Works range from $800 to $5,000.

I have seen the prints of forest by this artist. He did a great job at finding patterns in the leaves and foliage in the landscape.

Fumio Kitaoka passed away in 2007.

Price range information: Sorry none available.
