Claude Howell was born in Wilmington, North Carolina in the year 1915. Claude Howell painted the figure in an expressionist manner with vivid color. Some of his specialty subjects include tourists on the beach, fisherman on the docks, and works that showed the coastal areas of land.

The artist was self taught for the most part but studied with well known regional artist Elizabeth Chant.

Howell was based out of North Carolina for much of career.

Howell helped to start the art program at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. He ran the program for nearly 3 decades.

price range information: Works range from $5,000 to $40,000. The artist worked in chalk, graphite, oils, and watercolor.

Claude Howell passed away in 1997. He quit painting in 1985 due to cataracts on his eyes.

I enjoy the landscapes of this artist. A great combination of shapes and color.
