James Surls is a wonderful American artist renowned for his sculpture work with bronze and wood. His subject matter is often abstract or items from nature such as floral or botanical subjects. James Surls was born in the year 1943.
Surls attended Sam Houston State located in Houstonville, Texas earning a bachelor of fine arts degree. The artist went on to earn a masters of fine art degree from the Cranbrook Academy of Art located in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.
The artist is included in many public and private collections including the Guggenheim of New York City, and San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the Smithsonian American Art Museum located in Washington D.C.
Some works of the artist are as large as 9 feet tall.
