Jon Kuhn is wonderful glass artist who makes decorative art and sculptures with glass. Jon Kuhn was born in Chicago, Illinois in the year 1949.
Jon Kuhn attended Washburn University located in Topeka, Kansas where he earned a B.F.A. Kuhn went on to earn an M.F.A. from Virginia Commonwealth University located in Richmond, Virginia.
Here we have a brief biography on Jon Kuhn including a trip to a museum exhibit. Kuhn is part of many prestigious collections including the Met of New York City and the White House Permanent Collection:
Kuhn’s style is the opposite of Dale Chihuly. Chihuly works with extremely hot glass and blows it to his desired shape. Jon Kuhn works with cold glass and cuts and fuses his glass together. Where as Chihuly uses organic shapes, Kuhn works with basic geometric shapes often using the cube.
In this clip we take a closer look at two works by Jon Kuhn:

I enjoy this style of glass because it is so different from the style that is followed by many, working with blown glass. Kuhn’s work sparkles viewers with its play on light. In this manner it reminds me of one of my favorite flower artists, Robert Kushner. Kushner has a great talent for using mixed media in his works.
One technique that I enjoy is his use of resin that has many different types of glitter. The many varieties of glitter have a similar effect on viewers as they move about the piece. The light dances and shimmers and makes the work come alive even more. Wonderful!
