Sander studied art in Paris, France and Germany. In Germany the artist studied with Abstract painter Hans Hoffman. Sander earned a bachelor of arts degree from New York University.
Sander was part of a group of Abstract painters that included Willem De Kooning and Franz Kline.
The artist also taught at the collegiate level for a few years in the 1950s in Colorado and New York.
Ludwig Sander passed away in 1975.
