Artist of the moment….Sandro Chia

Sandro Chia was born in Florence, Italy in  the year 1946. For his artistic education Chia attended the Bella Academy of Art  located in Florence. Chia’s work can be described as a social realist with a modern twist. I love his style as it reminds me of the great mural and Works Progress  Administration painters such as Diego Rivera.

Price range information: Works range from $4,0oo to $150,000. The artist creates many prints and works in watercolors, gouache, and oils.

Less than one month ago our dear art loving friend James Kalm went to a great show featuring Sandro Chia and we tag along!:

What a unique style! I enjoy the level of abstraction he uses in his figure work.

Artist of the moment……Sculptor Paul Wegner

As I listen to jazz often, it has become one of my favorite subjects and Paul Wegner produces amazing works of art with jazz as his theme. Paul Wegner was born in the year 1950.

Wegner received a big boost to his career after receiving a commission from the National Geographic Society. Another significant commission was a work done for the Annapolis Naval Base Headquarters.

In this clip a closer look at one of the sculptures of jazz musicians Paul Wegner is famous for:

In this clip we view some works for sale by the artist:

What I enjoy most about the works of this artist is his design skill. A piano is made into a long and sleek shape. Seldom is the entire body shown, many works we just see the horn with some arms and maybe a torso. Very modern and elegant linework  in his sculpture work.

Price range information: Most are limited edition works with prices ranging froom $4,000 to $20,000.

Artist of the moment……Vivian Akers

Vivian in this case is a man’s name, and Vivian Akers was born in Norway, Maine in the year 1886. Akers spent time as a portrait artist, painting some Supreme Court Justices, but it is for his landscapes he is best known for. Akers was a painter and carver.

Some favorite subjects painted by the artist include trees, mountains, and flowers.

For his artistic education Vivian Akers studied at a local art academy and took classes with various regional artists that lived in an artist’s colony also in Maine.

Price range information: Works range from $3,000 to $25,000.

Vivian Akers passed away in 1966.

I enjoy the colors the artist used in his shadows. Akers was also great at painting snow many wonderful shades of light grey.
