Artist of the moment…….William Zorach


William Zorach was a wonderful painter and sculptor in the modernist tradition. William Zorach was born in the year 1887 in Jurbarkas, Lithuania, Russian Empire. The artist attended the Cleveland School of Art. Zorach also attended the National Academy of Design located in New York City. Like his wife, William Zorach also attended Bates College.

price range information: William Zorach was a highly productive artist, lithographs and watercolors range from $5,000 to $10,000. Original oils  and bronzes can reach as high as $200,000.

The artist’s birthname was Zorach. He and his wife made the switch to using Zorach for a last name after then were married.

The couple had a daughter who went on to a great career as an artist named Dahlov Ipcar. The marriage also produced a son named Tessim.

The artist was elected to membership in the American Academy for Art and Design.

The family of the artist emigrated to the United States in 1894.

The artist was a great draftsman and found employment as a teenager working in the field of lithography.

William Zorach passed away in 1966 at the age of 79 years of age.

William Zorach is included in many prominent collections including the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
