Artist of the moment……..Bruno Bobak

Bruno Bobak was a Canadian painter of landscapes and also the figure. Bruno Bobak was born in Wawelowska, Poland in the year 1923. The artist came with his family to the country of Canada in 1925.

The artist attended art school in high school and after he graduated joined the Army as it was during the time of World War 2. The artist won a contest for the army to see which soldiers might become an official war artist of the Canadian government. Bobak served as the youngest war artist in the army.

The artist also married a fellow war artist named Molly Bobak. Whilst Bruno was the youngest ever his wife Molly became famous as Canadian’s first female official war artist.

Bruno and his wife Molly Bobak were both officials members of the Order of Canada.

Bobak also taught at the Vancouver School of Art.

Bruno Babek passed away in 2012.

Price range information: The artist worked in watercolor and oils. In addition he was a printmaker. Prints start around $1,000 up to an original oil which can reach $10,000.

Molly Bobak produced large amount of works and has plenty to do her own entry so the wife of Bruno Bobak will be next up!

Artist of the moment…….Gordon Appelbe Smith

Gordon Appelbe Smith is a world renown painter associated with the Abstract Expressionist style of painting. Gordon Appelbe Smith is a painter,muralist,  sculptor, and printmaker. The artist is renowned for his landscapes as well as his abstract works.

The artist was part of World War 2. He was leg was shattered during the conflict.

Smith is part of the collection of the National Gallery of Canada.

Gordon Appelbe Smith was born in Brighton, England in the year 1919. The artist’s parents separated and his mother took him and his siblings to Canada.

For his artistic education Smith attended the Winnipeg School of Art and  the Vancouver School of Art. In addition Smith took summer classes at Harvard and the California School of Fine Arts located in San Francisco, California.

Gordon Smith also spent a fair amount of time teaching at the Vancouver School of Art and the University of British Columbia.

Though in his 90s Smith is still a daily painter. He is based out of Vancouver, British Columbia.

Smith is not stopped at all by the fact he doesn’t get around like he used to. In this clip we visit the artist at his home studio:

What a great story and its great to see he still paints at his advanced age!

Artist of the moment…….MearOne

MearOne is an American graffiti artist born in Santa Cruz, California in the year 1971. The artist is based out of Los Angeles, California. His government name is Kalen Ockerman.

MearOne is part of the collaborative CBS (Can’t Be Stopped- City Bomb Squad)

The artist has worked in the Los Angeles area for more than 2 decades.

MearOne has also created album covers for groups including Limp Bizk it.
