Artist of the moment……Marcel Russ

Marcel Russ is a wonderful artist representing the Haida (Raven Clan). Marcel Russ was born in Queen Charlotte Islands in the year 1973. Other artists in his family include his father Ron Russ.

Russ works as a jewelry designer, sculptor of totem poles, and graphic designer, and printmaker.

The artist learned how to work with argillite from his father. He started working with this stone when he was 8 years old. He began to work with wood when he was 12 years of age.

The artist also has an uncle named Chris Russ who is also an artist. It runs in the family genes! Through out  the Haida nation both sides of his families have been renowned for their work with argillite and wood carvings.

Price range information: Works range from $500 to $20,000.

Artist of the moment……Giulio Turcato

Giulio Turcato was an Italian painter renown for his abstract works. Giulio Turcato was born in Montova, Italy in the year 1912.

For his artistic education Turcato attended the Venice Academy School of Nude Studies located in Venice, Italy.

After his schooling he was able to find work at an architecture firm.

Growing up he had a weak heart and spent much time in hospital. Picasso and the Cubist movement inspired Turcato during this time period.

Turcato went on to become a key figure and founder of many abstract movements that took place in Europe.

Gulio Turcato was part of the 1942 Venice Biennial.

Turcato passed away in 1995.

Price range information: The artist worked as a printmaker and also in mediums including acrylics, oils, collage, and watercolor. Works range from $5,000 to $80,000.

I love the shapes that this abstract artist uses and sometimes layers on top of each other giving the work a feeling of dimension and fluidity.

Artist of the moment…..Rosa Marie Bonheur

Rosa Marie Bonheur was born in Bordeaux, France in the year 1822. Bonheur was renown for her animal paintings and sculptures. In addition to her paintings many engravings of her artwork were produced.

Her father was a trained artist who was a great teacher named Oscar Raymond Bonheur. His daughter was kicked out of many schools as a youngster and finally her father took her as his student.Oscar Bonheur was part of a movement that championed the cause of wonen being educated alongside men. Oscar Raymond Bonheur lived from 1796 to 1849. Below an example of his wonderful drawings he was famous  for.

Rosa Bonheur won a gold medal at the famed Paris Salon.

Rosa Bonheur was a painter and sculptor.

The artist was also famous for wearing mens clothing.
To get her knowledge of anatomy Rosa Bonheur went to great measures including attending horse fairs, visiting slaughterhouses, and going to vet schools and participate in dissectations of animals.

Rosa Bonheur passed away in 1899 at the age of 77 years of age.

Oscar Raymond Bonheur had four children that went on to become professional artists. Entries on the other children will come shortly!

Price range information: Works range from $3,000 to $300,000. Bonheur was an avid printmaker and worked in charcoal, oils, watercolors, and gouache.
