Artist of the moment……..Paul Wonner

Paul Wonner was another painter associated with the California Bay Area Figurative Movement. Paul Wonner was born in the year 1920 in Tucscon, Arizona. The artist is also associated with the abstract expressionist movement.

His partner was also a renown painter named Theophilius Brown.

Favorite themes included the male figure and floral works.

As he got older he added more definition and finished his works in a more realistic manner. I love these floral works best for their unique view points.

Paul Wonner passed away in 2008.

Price range information: The artist worked in many mediums including acrylics, casein, watercolors, gouache, oils, and lithography. Prices range from $3,000 to $300,000.

The artist is part of many prestigious collections including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Smithsonian American Art Institute.

Street Artist Banksy at auction sells for $575,000

A work created a few years back on the side of Prince Albert Pub located in London, England sold for a bid of $480,000 plus $95,000 in fees for a total of $575,000 U.S. dollars.

The work shows two policeman embracing and the work was titled ” Kissing Coppers.”

The work was sold at auction in Miami. Banksy had some other works that received bids, but the bids did not meet the reserve price.

Artist of the momemt….Street Artist Bambi

Bambi is a great female street artist sometimes called the Female “Banksy!” Bambi, whose identity is kept a secret, was born in 1972. Bambi does most of her street work around London. Some of her subject are well known celebrities including Dita Von Tease, Rihanna, Liz Taylor, and Daniel Craig.

The artist works in mixed mediums including stencils, spray paint, gold leaf, and diamond dust.

Bambi was commissioned for one her signature “Warhol” like portraits by the British model Kate Moss. Reportedly she earned 50,000 euros for her efforts! Her work is high demand from international collectors.

For her artistic education the artist attended Saint Martin’s School of Art located in London, England.

Artist of the moment…….Bernard Matemera

Bernard Matemera was another first generation Shona artist from Zimbabwe. Bernard Matemera was born in Guruve, Zimbabwe in the year 1946.

The artist spent much of his career based out of the sculpture park at Tengenege Sculpture Community.

The artist was working in the agriculture industry as a driver for tobacco farmers and he happened to meet the owner of the Tengenenge Sculpture Community where many other Shona artists resided due to the bountiful stone deposits located at the farm.

Matemera passed away in 2006.

The artist was internationally renown and collected.

A favorite theme was animals and wildlife. The artist carved mainly in serpentine.

Matemera was exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art located in New York City.
