Artist of the moment……Morris Louis

Morris Louis was an American painter associated with the American Washington Color Field School Movement.  Morris Louis was born in Baltimore, Maryland in the year 1912. For his artistic education Morris Louis attended the Maryland Institute College of Art.

Louis took part in the Works Progress Administration Program from 1936 to 1940.

Price range information: Works range from $300,000 to $4,000,000. Many works at auction have broken the one million dollar barrier.

Louis worked with a specially made acrylic paint called Magna for much of his artwork.

The artist died in 1962 due to lung cancer from toxic fumes used in the production of his wonderful artwork.

Artist of the moment…….Irving Norman

Irving Norman was born in Vilna, Russian Empire in the year 1906. After World War 2 this area became the country of Poland. Norman was a Surrealist painter and was adept and painting large groupings of people. His family came to the United States in 1923. The family lived in New York City and he became a barber.

For his artistic education Norman attended the California School of Fine Arts. Norman studied at the Art Students League of New York City where he mentored under Robert Beverly Hale, a master at painting and drawing the figure.

Norman was influenced by Pablo Picasso and the great Mexican muralist painters including Diego Rivera and more so Jose Orozco. Norman worked in watercolors, oils, and was an excellent draftsman.

Norman was under surveillance by the F.B.I. for his political beliefs.

Norman has been part of the shows at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and the San Francisco Museum of Art.

Artist of the moment…….Eiler Adelsteen Normann

Adelsteen Normann was a Norwegian artist renown for his paintings of his native country. His fjords and picturesque landscapes with mountains are amazing and show a high level of skill. Adelsteen Normann was born in Bodo, Norway in the year 1848.

Price range information: Works range from $5,000 to $50,000.

The artist participated in many shows at the annual Paris Salon.

Normann split his time between Berlin, Germany and Norway.

For his artistic education Normann attended the Kunstakademie located in Dusseldorf, Germany.

Normann passed away in 1918.
