Artist of the moment….Yoshitoshi Mori

Yoshitoshi Mori was an internationally acclaimed and collected Japanese printmaker born in Tokyo, Japan in the year 1896.

Alongside Sadao Wantanabe, already profiled here for his work with printmaking and spreading the word of the Christian bible. Below are some examples of his work. Both artists used stencils in their printmaking process. The process of using stencils for printmaking is called Kappazuri.

For his artistic education Mori attended the Kawabata School of Fine Art. After college he worked as a textile designer and also worked dying various fabrics.

Yoshitoshi Mori passed away in 1992.

Price range information: Most prints range from $300 to $5,000.

Mori is included in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, the Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo, and the Art Institute of Chicago.
