Artist of the moment…..Alice Aycock

Alice Aycock is an American artist born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania in the year 1946. Aycock is a painter and sculptor working in a modernist style. For her artistic education Aycock attended Douglass College in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Aycock went on to earn a masters degree from Hunter College in New York City. In addition to paintings and sculpture, also produces large size installations. A traveling show now is exhibiting drawings by the artist.

In college she was able to mentor with artist Robert Morris.

For her sculptures she now works with steel and aluminum. In the early part of her career she worked with wood and stone.

Her work has appeared at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, Illinois.

Aycock has been teaching at the School of Visual Arts in New York City since 2010.

I love the shapes the artist uses in many works. They remind me of a free flowing ribbon. These works contain motion despite being made of aluminum or steel in many cases.
